2020: A Year Bounded with Unwarranted Consciousness

Two-thousand and twenty has a plethora of concern to everyone, especially YOU. There are many things to be concerned about, is it the fact that 2020 marks the beginning of a new decade; or that years like 2020 can only be found in a millennia like 1010, 3030; or the fact that the Nigeria government amongst many other nation-states has installed some policies bounded with consciousness in the minds of their citizenries i.e., the Nigeria Vision 20:2020. Again, there are many things to be anxious about this odd year.

Consequently, the continuous mentions of ‘World War 3’ made me indecisive if the year 2020 means war. More or less, I am sure war or negativities is not something I want, I am an advocate of peace, and I voraciously believe that ‘two wrongs would never make a right’. This is only one out of many positives and negatives words that I have heard from people.

My informal interviews with different species of formal, laymen, and professional people have heightened my consciousness about prospective occurrences in 2020. You won’t believe, a Barrister told me, ‘2020 is gonna be a bloody year‘, my further probing was unfortunately not answered satisfactorily. I could not decipher the ‘bloody’ in the statement. I was like, could it be the war-toned tweets of President Donald Trump on New Year Eve? Other reasons I thought about could not just provide a complete thought on why 2020 is going to be bloody.

Could you believe something! Whether good or bad, positive or negative, socially acceptable or taboo, wanted occurrence or unwanted, the spate at which occurrences would unveil in 2020 would be extraordinary. For those that would be successful this year, it would be at a never unimagined quantity. Do I need to say those that would fail this year, would do that prodigiously and severely?

Occurrences, happenings, and unveilings whether for individuals, organizations, companies, governments and nations would have new dimensions attached to them in 2020. Also, prospective events and innovations in the economy, education industry, political setting, health sector, including games and sports, would sporadically deviate (positive and negative) from the status quo.

We need not go far to search for the cause of the above discussed; moreover, it has initially been stated in this article, I hope I have all of YOU with me within! Anyways, for reiteration purposes and to further make things more precise, yourself and I have attached some extra consciousness to 2020. We have specially constructed our psyches, our emotions, our subconsciousness, and our mindsets to add some ‘unnecessary’ rigors to 2020.

Prayer (Go to the next dropdown if you are not a person of faith): Do not forget we are only shouting 2020! Third World War! Buhari! Iran Vs. America! because God preserved our lives. We should appreciate God for the grace to witness 2020. Despite our individualized heightened consciousness, kindly don’t forget to tell your Creator what you desire this year consistently.

Before this year commenced, I have observed people talk about 2020 at an alarming and frightening manner. Thus, I have concluded that I will not be left behind in the already foreseen expectations and exigencies of 2020.

Thus, for the kind of person that I am, and for that rare gem personality that you are, I have pinpointed some titbits to guide us this new year. Kindly be reminded that these titbits individually have books written on them, please do not forget to consult hard and soft materials further. These are the compendium of what I found very important for 2020 since we already have our subconsciousness awoke.

It can be inferred from James Thompson, in his book titled Subconscious Mindpower ‘When you come up with that list, begin by praying an earnest prayer asking for each of those things to be true in your life, and stating specifically that you have faith that these things are yours.’

Have a Purpose: Purpose!!! I can avow that the most incessant term in over 90% of my counselling and coaching is PURPOSE. When people seek help from me, my consciousness is undertoned to observe if the personage has discovered purpose. I always want to know if the person is only living life as life presents itself, or almost doing EVERYTHING, and unfortunately, not doing anything.

There is no hard rule for discovering purpose. Like most motivations, purpose is that particular thing that you cannot do without, something your Mum cannot talk you out on, something you find yourself doing almost EVERYDAY, and then when you complete doing them, you will be happy with yourself! For example, you find yourself playing football from age 6 until you were 25, you’re always discouraged by friends and relatives that not everyone would be a Ronaldo, yet you continue to train every day. Brethren! That is your purpose or your calling.

There is no late time to discover purpose, what is essential is to ensure you discover it. To a relevant extent, I only discovered this Luqman in 2017, despite the fact that that people have known me for excellence several years back. Always look out for Academia, Agripreneurship, Education Change-Leadership (AAE) in my profiles, I always say AAE represents Luqman, look for what represents you! A popular Nigeria public speaker – Femi Chacha Naija in an event in 2019 said ‘know the date you were born, and the date you discover yourself, differentiate the duo and always celebrate the date you discovered yourself’

Time management: I told my family in an annual ‘New Year Meeting Series’ in 2019 that it has started and it would end SOON. They were like, this it is just 1st of January; fortunately, they believed me in 2020. My siblings could recollect easily the very moment I said those words; they exclaimed, So Fast!

In spite of our emotions for this year, I am telling you we only have 365 days (Bomboclat! we have 1 extra day) like every leap year. Time is running, the time you have consumed in reading this piece would never be retrieved, meanwhile, continue reading, trust me, it is worth it. Remember, time is the only resource that, when misused, will never come back.

For you to be celebrated in 2020, you have to plan your schedules and engagements. However, there might be hitches and surprises, yet, work with a time plan and execute your tasks accordingly. Importantly, be accountable to YOU! It doesn’t mean you should not go clubbing, watch Hollywood, Nollywood and every other ‘woods’ we watch, just be conscious of how you spend your time, again it will never come back. A recent post by Zakariyah Wakilah on time management is a good place to start.

Count your wins and know your losses: For every success, you crush in 2020, kindly count them, congratulate yourself, and take out time to chill! Surprise yourself to a beach, a zoo, a holiday, and visit lovely places in 2020.

While you treat yourself, kindly promise yourself to do more to achieve many others that are waiting in your 2020 Goal Book. Accordingly, do not sober too much on your losses. 2019 taught me great lessons on how to move forward, especially when faced with ‘the humanity in human beings’ and/or individual negligence and carelessness.

NEVER GIVE UP!: For some of us, 2020 is just not the year to reap, or should I say 2020 might not bring forth our expectations. It might just be the year we would learn that daunting skill, acquire that knowledge, grab that certificate, pass that examination, cross that finish line, learn new methods, do extra readings and many more.

Remember, while plentiful would be counting their blessings, don’t despise them, move on, 2020 is not the year to give up, 2021 is just a breath away.

Conclusively, as much as 2020 might have raised ‘false/true consciousness’ of ourselves. Allow me to remind you that 2020 is just like 2019, and like every other year, it has started, and it will definitely end SOON. Run your race and be reminded of several years (may we all witness it) beyond 2020, also, know that your actions in 2020 implicate your years beyond.

Don’t forget to pour out your thoughts in the comment box.

It All Comes With Time.

Inspired Motivation
By Kelvin Muzira (the curve)

Everything has its own season and time in life. For those in chains, the time will come when you will be set free. In poverty, your breakthrough time is coming. If you are sick know that one day you will be healed. If heartbroken and stressed soon the time will come when your peace of mind will be redeemed and you shall be happy again.

Whatever I said above is absolutely true however, I feel like adding an important word in my very first statement. Everything has its own place, season, and time. There is a place for everything and for that reason we can not be stationary. One must be adventurous in all sectors of life as he/she waits for season and time. The sick move place to place from hospitals to prophets and even to sangomas hoping that one day they will reach the right place at the right time. The same must be with those in search of a luxurious life. Your life will not change if you stay and wait for change. You have to look for a change in many places no matter how many times up to until you reach the right place at the right season in time.

We read that David killed Goliath and he became the people’s favourite overnight and that is absolutely true. However, you have to understand that David came from somewhere to reach the place of slaughter. It is written that David fought and killed beasts to save the sheep in his shepherding experience. This makes me understand that at first, he had no choice but to fight the beasts in the jungle and there was no way he was going to leave the sheep defenseless. This groomed him and nurtured him to upgrade from saving the sheep to saving the nation of Israel at the right place and time set by God. If you want to be a celebrity overnight then there is a need to be adventurous, do not stop to hustle, hope and keep dreaming because the right time will reach you when you arrive a certain place.

At first, I thought that Usain Bolt ran at only 3 Olympics tournaments which he won 9 gold medals. I was surprised to know that Bolt struggled at the 2004 Olympics tournament in Greece where he finished 4th. However, he never gave up hope and his time came in 2008 in Beijing where he scooped 3gold medals at once. A blank in Greece natured him and groomed him for the right season in time. Do not stop your hustles even after a big loss, keep on because the right time is waiting for you to go somewhere where your breakthrough awaits.

Yes you are powerless only for now.
Yes you are crying but its only for now.
Yes you are poor but its only for now.
Yes you have failed but you wont fail next time.

The Magic of A Pen

You feel heavy in your heart; you wonder if it’s worth jotting down. “This is for talented people”, what if it’s a chance for you to discover yours? I believe life is a mystery to be discovered and learnt. Learn to appreciate your mind by allowing that pen to scribble your motivations or feelings. I have learnt to discover writing makes me to be serene with myself, it’s a form of healing.

You can ask yourself, should I use complex language? Should I use a certain structure? All these are not of major importance; we all have a unique way to our literary work. If you cannot appreciate your work as the first customer to it, who will? Never doubt that you can do it, it only needs you to believe in yourself and never be ashamed to ask for help. If I say a lot it would be more of iteration, just believe in the magic of the pen you hold.

Tips For Studying For An Examination

Studying for an exam

By Munyaradzi Zindi Chikomba

What you need to do:

How to do it:

1. Information Gathering

Gather all the information sources be it books both e-books and hard copies, syllabuses, past examination papers, articles, audios, and videos.

This will help you to understand the task at hand.

 2. Syllabus Knowledge

Knowledge of the syllabus is also of paramount importance because it gives a clear picture of what is going to be asked. A syllabus is a handbook that will guide you so for every subject you will write look for the syllabus.

3. Knowing the structure and nature of the examination

– Knowing what is most likely to be asked in the examination is already halfway to passing the actual examination.

– Theory question require one to major on definitions.

-Solving cases require case studies.

-Numbers require knowledge of formulas.

-Essay questions require analytical skills to separate black and white.

-Detailed questions do not require summary studying they require in depth knowledge.

4. Studying efficiently

-Study the most important topics thoroughly which comes with the biggest number of marks because it is a game of numbers.

-The minor topics are very important also because they complement however the most important topics should be known thoroughly.

-If you are not understanding or getting a hard time to understand a topic or chapter skip it and go to the next topic so that at least you don’t waste time on one topic neglecting the others.

-When you finish study get back and restudy those that were giving you a hard time.

 5. A planner

-A planner is a detailed formulation of a program of action.

-The easiest way to formulate a good planner is to go on the syllabus or text book contents page and analyze your topics.

-The analysis will be on what you know in detail, what you have an idea of and what you don’t have more information on.

-This will be a guideline for you to what to major on and what to just peruse. There is no point for vigorously reading what you already know because it is a waste of time.

– Most of the time should be focused on the things you don’t have knowledge about.

– Try by all means to prevent a situation where you have to read or do intense study in the last 72 hours before the actual exam.

– The last 72 hours should be channeled for instance revision, it may be too late to grasp new concepts, try as much as possible to do intense studies when you still have time.

 6. Time of study

-Study time is very important in preparation for an examination.

You can study in the morning, afternoon and in the evening .

Early Morning(2-7am)– Researchers say that the morning is the most effective time for intense study because the brain will be fresh and most healthy. Before you engage in anything your brain will be fresh and no disturbances are likely to affect you.

Late Morning & Afternoon(9am-5pm)– The late morning and the afternoon are best for practicing and writing examination questions because you will definitely write the exams in the afternoon and late morning. So practice makes perfect the more you practice the more you get used.

Evening(7pm-12pm)– Evenings are best for revisions and winding up what you would have studied. The brain will have be exhausted with the daily routines so intense studying may be a bit difficult.

7. The environment effect

-The type of environment you choose to do your study is of paramount importance.

-Unfortunately many of us do not afford to have libraries in their homes so we have to compromise but try as much as possible to study in a quite convenient place.

-Less noise helps in concentration, try to shun away from media and radio when doing serious study because the brain is designed in such a way that in can fully function when it is doing one task at a time.

-That is why most prefer late evenings and early mornings so that they create a quite environment which is convenient for studying.
